Resumen

PINHEIRO, Ana et al. Falência de Artroplastia Total da Anca por Rutura: A Propósito de um Caso. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.3, pp.222-228. ISSN 1646-2122.

Although currently rare, the total hip replacement (THR) failure by rupture of the femoral components was widely disseminated between 1970 and 1984. THR is not a permanent implant, it is exposed to complications in the short, medium and long term, due to the absence of a material that responds simultaneously to all mechanical, metallurgical, functional and biological requirements, indispensable for perfect prosthetic implant. The authors report a case of THR bankruptcy by rupture of the femoral stem at the neck. This study focused on alert the orthopedic community to the importance of being prepared to go into treatment of such complications of THRs. Note that after all, reducing the incidence of this type of prosthetic failure may be related to improvement of implant design, the use of stronger materials and improvement of surgical techniques. Given the growing trend of THRs and the increase in life expectancy of the carriers is important that all orthopedic surgeons are prepared to treat this type of complications associated with THRs.
