NEVES, Manuel Cassiano et al. Será a análise do movimento um fator determinante na recuperação da prática desportiva após tratamento cirúrgico da rotura do tendão de Aquiles?. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.4, pp.252-282. ISSN 1646-2122.

Introduction: The main goal of this work comprehends the study of the application of motion analysis methodologies as a complement of the clinical evaluation in subjects surgically treated to an Achilles tendon rupture. Methods: The patients’ performance was analyzed considering two evaluation protocols. The first one comprehends the analysis of different scores and parameters usually collected in clinics, while the second consisted in a biomechanical analysis of the patients’ motion. Three daily movements, walking and climbing/downing steps with different heights, were acquired to simulate different recruitment levels of the tendon. Results: The patient initial sample was divided in two groups according to the symptomatology and clinical scores. Both groups presented good to excellent results in the different components of the clinical evaluation. Nevertheless, a permanent decrease of the calf perimeter was observed in the operated leg. The comparison of the gait patterns with a control group did not present significant differences. However, the results obtained for the climbing/downing stairs movement showed variations in the kinematic and dynamic patterns between groups, allowing to detect the adoption of different strategies to surpass the same obstacle. Conclusion: Despite the good scores in the clinical evaluation, the biomechanical analysis evidenced the existence of differences in some patients, while performing movements that require higher tendon recruitment. These results confirm the idea that motion analysis methodologies can be used as an important complement to clinical evaluation, particularly, in the study of athletes, in which the recovering time and performance loss is a crucial factor.
