TOSTA, Matheus H M R et al. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the oral cavity: Case report. Rev Port Estomatol Med Dent Cir Maxilofac [online]. 2020, vol.61, n.2, pp.91-96.  Epub 30-Jun-2020. ISSN 1646-2890.  https://doi.org/10.24873/j.rpemd.2020.09.707.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma consists of a group of malignant lymphoid cells that manifest themselves in nodal or extranodal areas, reaching, to a much lesser extent, the maxillofacial region. Its prevalence has been increasing around 3% per year, being the third most common cancer worldwide and representing 5% of all malignancies in the head region. The frequency of non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas does not differ significantly between genders, and the average age of occurrence is 71 years. Clinically, it manifests itself in a nodular form, affecting the entire lymph node or an extranodal area. The most affected intraoral regions are the soft palate and the vestibular fundus. Radiographically, rarefaction and bone destruction can be observed. Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice and may be associated with radiotherapy, depending on the extent and clinical stage. A correct diagnosis and interdisciplinary work are important factors for a better prognosis of the disease and the life of the patient. The aim of this study was to report a case of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the palate of a 54-year-old white female patient.
