Abstract

RODRIGUES, Cristovão Marcondes de Castro et al. Surgical treatment of a rare condition of solid ameloblastoma in the jaw - a case report. Rev Port Estomatol Med Dent Cir Maxilofac [online]. 2020, vol.61, n.4, pp.203-209.  Epub Dec 30, 2020. ISSN 1646-2890.  https://doi.org/10.24873/j.rpemd.2020.12.725.

Ameloblastoma is a benign neoplasm originating from locally invasive odontogenic epithelial tissue, with a high tendency to relapse. Approximately 85% of the ameloblastomas occur in the angle and branch of the mandible, while 15% occur in the posterior maxillary region.

Among the several variations of this tumor, the most recurrent are the solid/multicystic and unicystic types. The signs are discreet and rarely perceived by the patient in the early stages.

Several treatment methods for ameloblastoma have been described in the literature,

from enucleation and curettage to more aggressive approaches, such as resections with or without loss of bone continuity. The objective of this work is to report a clinical case in a 15-year-old male patient of solid ameloblastoma approached in a conservative surgical way through enucleation of the lesion, located in the posterior region of the maxilla.

Keywords : Ameloblastoma; Curettage; Maxilla; Maxillomandibular neoplasia; Conservative treatment.
