Abstract

CALAZANS NETO, João V.; SOUSA, Taíse C. de Oliveira; MEYERA,, Guilherme A.  and  OLIVEIRAA,, Viviane Maia B. de. Total reconstruction of the auricle with a maxillofacial implant: a case report. Rev Port Estomatol Med Dent Cir Maxilofac [online]. 2021, vol.62, n.2, pp.127-132.  Epub June 30, 2021. ISSN 1646-2890.  https://doi.org/10.24873/j.rpemd.2021.03.830.

This case report aims to demonstrate the importance of a full prosthetic facial reconstruction in facially mutilated patients without an auricle. A 47-year-old male patient visited the Maxillofacial Prosthesis Service of the Dental School of the Federal University of Bahia complaining of lack of his left ear due to an automobile accident trauma, which resulted in total ear loss. Physical examination revealed good general health. After clinical and anamnestic examination, an auricular prosthesis in acrylic resin was planned. This case report shows that rehabilitating a lost area is challenging, especially when both anatomical and psychological recovery are required. Despite the technical and material divergences in the literature, well-executed planning offers satisfactory results and restores the individual´s facial harmony.
