Abstract

PROT, Bernard. Read or re-read “The Origin of Techniques”, from André-Georges Haudricourt, to reflect about how we look at the techniques today. Laboreal [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.1, e20584.  Epub July 01, 2023. ISSN 1646-5237.  https://doi.org/10.4000/laboreal.20584.

This text introduces an ethnobotanical text from André-Georges Haudricourt, published in 1965 about the “origin of techniques”. A brief visit of the historical context precedes the focus on the arguments of the original text, which states that “The technique is the most rational activity there is”. The author then underlines the characteristics of Haudricourt’s work using several examples: it is factual, comparative, historical. The last part refers to several contemporary works that fit the same perspective, in particular regarding the fields of training and work sciences.

Keywords : history of techniques; technology; rational activity.
