Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Joana et al. Evening Primrose Oil in the treatment of Mastodynia - evidence or myth?. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.4, pp.243-248.  Epub Dec 01, 2020. ISSN 1646-5830.

Mastalgia is frequent in women of childbearing age. It may be cyclical (mastodynia) which is premenstrual, diffuse and

bilateral; or non-cyclical, unilateral, localized and more frequent in perimenopause. Evening Primrose Oil has been used to treat mastalgia. Therefore we conducted an evidence-based review to assess the effectiveness of Evening Primrose Oil in improving mastodynia in adult women. It included 4 articles and allowed to conclude there seems to be no evidence of a statistically significant efficacy of Evening Primrose Oil compared to placebo in the treatment of cyclic mastodynia (Strength of Recommendation B).

Keywords : Mastalgia; Mastodynia; Oenothera biennis; Onagraceae; Evening Primrose Oil..
