Abstract

URZAL, Cecília; PACHECO, Amália  and  PEDRO, Amélia. Accuracy and quality in colposcopy. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.3, pp.253-262.  Epub Sep 30, 2022. ISSN 1646-5830.

Previous studies have discussed the diagnostic performance of colposcopy for the detection of cervical precancers and analysed correlated factors. The role of colposcopic examination becomes even more demanding as primary and secondary prevention strategies evolve. Patient’s assessment is currently based on immediate or future risk of CIN3+ as estimated by personal history, screening results and colposcopic impression. Improving sensitivity while limiting unnecessary procedures requires implementation of high-standard training and quality assurance programs in colposcopy units. The purpose of the current essay is to organize the extant literature on the accuracy of colposcopy and to specify good practice recommendations.

Keywords : Colposcopy; Accuracy; Quality indicators.
