Abstract

LOPEZ, Berta; VEIGA, Vera  and  SILVA, Daniel Pereira da. Should 26-45 aged women be vaccinated against HPV?. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.4, pp.375-380.  Epub Dec 31, 2022. ISSN 1646-5830.

Since 2008 HPV vaccine is part of the National Vaccination Program, starting at 10 year old girls. The rationale for the use of this vaccine in women over 26 years old, is due to the fact that it maintains the effectiveness in the development of antibodies, proven security and efficacy in the prevention of infection and development of HPV-related benigns lesions or pre invasive or cancer. The vaccination beyond 26 years old must be discussed individually, taking into account all the risk factors. Therefore the universal vaccination till 45 years old is not recommended by any national or international society.
