Abstract

JORGE, Inês; AMARAL, Njila; BAPTISTA, Carlota  and  BRANCO, Francisco. Cancer during pregnancy: overview of the diagnosis, treatment and obstetric management. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.1, pp.46-58.  Epub Mar 31, 2023. ISSN 1646-5830.

We present evidence regarding the safety of diagnostic/staging methods and therapeutic options, as well as regarding obstetric risks and obstetric management in women with cancer during pregnancy. Most diagnostic methods can be used with relative safety. It is generally agreed that surgery is safe during pregnancy and chemotherapy should be avoided in the first trimester. In order to decide the type of therapy, the benefits for the mother and the risks for the fetus must be balanced, taking into account the gestational age, the physiological changes of pregnancy and the limited evidence regarding the

safety of most drugs in pregnancy.
