Abstract

AMARAL, Patrícia Pereira et al. Family Planning appointment as a key opportunity in a women’s life: health care professionals’ view. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.2, pp.129-133.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 1646-5830.

Overview and Aims:

The Family Planning appointment should constitute, in addition to counseling the woman in terms of contraception and pre and post-conception care, a key opportunity for education for woman overall health.

Study Design, Population and Methods:

Prospective, observational study, carried out through an online questionnaire using the Google Forms® tool, disseminated through digital platforms. Nurses, residents and specialists in General and Family Medicine and Gynecology/Obstetrics who carry out Family Planning appointments were included.

Results:

Of the 265 responders, most promote healthy lifestyles and carry out gynecological cancer screenings, but there seems to be a significant deficit in preventing and addressing violence against women and female genital mutilation.

Conclusions:

The Family Planning appointment should constitute a key opportunity for its users' education, being fundamental for their long-term well-being.
