Abstract

MARTINS, Inês Vieira; CALDAS, Júlio  and  NUNES, Filomena. Silicone and dilemmas in senological surveillance - a peculiar case. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.2, pp.166-168.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 1646-5830.

The injection of liquid silicone for aesthetic purposes is an illegal procedure that can seriously compromise the health of its users. Although it is not possible to establish a causative relationship between the presence of this substance and the development of breast cancer, imaging and histopathological studies may not clearly identify an eventual concomitant tumor. Therefore, the surgical approach with simple mastectomy followed by reconstruction seems to be the safest option in these cases.

Keywords : Liquid silicone; Breast lumps; Mastectomy.
