ALMEIDA, Tiago et al. Management of pain related to the intrauterine devices insertion: what is the evidence?. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2023, vol.17, n.4, pp.287-298. Epub 31-Dez-2023. ISSN 1646-5830.
The number of women of reproductive age has been increasing, reinforcing the greater need for effective family planning. The intrauterine device is the most widely used reversible long-acting contraceptive method. Despite the benefits, one of the barriers to its use is pain during the insertion procedure. Several analgesic strategies have been studied, although with controversial results. Therefore, we conducted an evidence-based review with the aim of synthesizing existing knowledge, including 10 articles. We concluded that there is no consistent evidence on the routine use of analgesia during intrauterine devices insertion (Strength of Recommendation B).
