The postpartum period is characterized by physical, social and psychological changes. The resumption of sexual activity normally occurs after six weeks and is influenced by several factors. The emotional, social and physical impact of childbirth is linked to postpartum sexual function. Thus, childbirth, breastfeeding, self-image, the couple's social and family changes and postpartum depression have an impact on the couple's sexual experience. Dialogue as a couple and with health professionals is essential. By recognizing and addressing difficulties, couples can maintain a healthy and satisfying sexual relationship during this stage of life.
