CAETANO, Beatriz Leite; CONDE, Maria Margarida Gil  e  OLIVEIRA, Alda Pereira da Silva. Combined oral contraceptive and its association with breast cancer: a systematic review. Acta Obstet Ginecol Port [online]. 2024, vol.18, n.1, pp.35-45.  Epub 31-Mar-2024. ISSN 1646-5830.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignant disease in women worldwide, with increasing incidence and mortality, therefore the knowledge of its risk factors is of great importance to be able to invest in effective primary prevention measures. The combined oral contraceptive (COC) is the most widely used contraceptive method in women of childbearing age, with an average use of 5 years. This systematic review aims to assess whether there is a higher incidence of breast cancer in women of childbearing age with exposure to COC for more than 5 years, compared to less than 5 years of exposure.

Palavras-chave : Premenopausal women; Combined oral contraceptive; Breast cancer.
