Resumen

ROBERTO, Magda S.; FIDALGO, António  y  BUCKINGHAM, David. What do we mean when we talk about digital divide and digital literacy? Perspectives of digital natives. OBS* [online]. 2015, vol.9, n.1, pp.43-54. ISSN 1646-5954.

Digital divide and digital literacy are recurrent themes in the scientific debate due to the accelerating technological progress. In this qualitative study we analyze digital natives perceptions on this issue, including their thoughts on digital divide between young people and older adults. One hundred thirty-five college students answered to several open questions through a questionnaire. Results illustrate the functional perception digital natives have regarding this theme, which is anchored in ageist perceptions. Although digital natives appear to have an excellent practical command of new technologies, it is important to link that knowledge with theoretical awareness regarding the digital divide, in order to improve their understanding and support of a digital literacy addressed to all.

Palabras clave : Ageing; Digital Divide; Digital Literacy; Digital Natives; Theory-Practice.
