Abstract

MORENO, José. The economic value of information in the network society. OBS* [online]. 2015, vol.9, n.2, pp.1-28. ISSN 1646-5954.

In this paper we aim to analyze the economic value of information in the network society. We will investigate the changes taking place in the way information is socially distributed following the adoption of the new digital information and communication technologies and the way those changes may affect the economic value of information. The hypothesis we investigate is that the network society, i.e. the social appropriations of the digital technologies, decrease the economic value of information. We analyze empiric economic data relative to the companies that distribute information to study the economic value of information and how the current information abundance affects the way we use it on the social level.

Keywords : network society; information; economic value; business models.
