Abstract

MASSUCHIN, Michele Goulart  and  SOUSA, Suzete Gaia de. From newspapers to fanpages: the language and shape of content of Brazilian local newspapers on Facebook from a comparative perspective. OBS* [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.1, pp.116-138. ISSN 1646-5954.  https://doi.org/10.15847/obsOBS14120201352.

This article proposes a comparative analysis of how Brazilian regional newspapers - "A Tarde" (Northeast), "Correio Braziliense" (Midwest), "Diário do Pará" (North), "Gazeta do Povo" (South) and "O Globo "(Southeast) - use Facebook as a tool for distribution of journalistic content. The literature has shown the migration of newspapers to social networks, but it is necessary to observe how the use of this space occurs and whether the process is similar in different newspapers. The objective of this text is to find out how the selected newspapers use Facebook from textual style characteristics, such as textual language - formal or informal - and the different shapes - photo, video, emoticons, gifts, and others. Thus, the concern of this research is to perceive the structural characteristics of the posts on five selected journals. The method used is quantitative and the technique used is content analysis. The data collection period comprises two weeks (between April and May, during 2018), and the corpus of the research is formed by 2825 posts. Among the main results, the predominance of formal language is an important point, although two vehicles have already advanced to the informality. About shape, there is a pattern avoid innovations - with few videos, gifts and memes, for example - but some newspapers - especially the Gazeta do Povo - has used emoticons and keywords to attract the attention of readers.

Keywords : journalism; social digital network; Facebook; language; format of posts.
