Aortic embolism is rare but associated with a high morbidity and mortality The authors report a case of a young woman with symptomatology of acute aortic occlusion sent to our department five months after the onset of symptoms. Imaging exams confirmed an aortic occlusion with high probably to be of embolic source. Based on the patient’s age and her reluctance for a long median laparotomy, she was submitted to an aortic thromboembolectomy by bilateral femoral approach. After surgery she presented with a normal hemodynamic arterial pattern in the lower limbs. Histological study of thrombus shows an atrial myxoma. Clinical vascular examination (absent femoral pulses) can make the diagnosis. A normal echocardiography does not rule out an aortic occlusion of cardiac embolic source, so an histological study of the thrombus is mandatory.
