Abstract
SANTOS, Carlos Felipe Silva and OLIVEIRA, Anderson Gomes de. Land use mapping in a protected area of Lagoas de Guarajuba in Camacari, Bahia, Brazil. RGCI [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.3, pp.391-397. ISSN 1646-8872. https://doi.org/10.5894/rgci396.
In this study GIS (Geographic Information System) was used to map land use with the aim to aid environmental planning in a protected area. The site of Lagoas de Guarajuba is in the Municipality of Camaçari in the State of Bahia. This area is located 50 km north of the state capital Salvador. It is affected by urban growth and commercial and tourist development. An updated GIS map is essential to aid environmental planning of future land cover of the area. Significant differences have been observed between the limits of this conservation area established by resolution that created and the georeferenced digital files released by government. Six zones of land use were mapped: wetlands, urban areas, forests, beaches, sand dunes and coconut plantations. The wetlands predominate (48.3 % of the area) corresponding the matrix of this landscape. However great urbanization of the area decreases the generation of ecosystem services and threatens these wetlands.
