Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Yadira Jarvio; VELASCO-ELIZONDO, Perla  and  BENITEZ-GUERRERO, Edgard. Evaluating Functional Appropriateness and Usability of Composition Tools from an End-User Perspective. RISTI [online]. 2016, n.17, pp.96-114. ISSN 1646-9895.  https://doi.org/10.17013/risti.17.96-114.

A growing number of people perform tasks supported by systems that are built through the composition of software components. Despite the popularity of component-based software development and related tools, their use remains complicated for experts, not to mention for end users. This paper provides an evaluation of composition tools focused on end users. A major contribution of this assessment is that, given a set of characteristics that are intrinsic to composition-based software development and to end users, a set of relevant functions and heuristics to detect general problems of functional suitability and usability are proposed. These functions and heuristics provide a knowledge base that can be extended in specific application domains to improve the design of composition tools.

Keywords : composition tools; heuristic evaluation; characteristic inspection; end-user.
