Abstract

Mild cognitive impairment is the transition between the cognitive changes of aging and early stage of dementia. Older people with mild cognitive impairment are more likely to develop dementia frames in short time, so it is important to intervene early, namely with cognitive stimulation programs. These programs aim to empower individuals and their families/caregivers to live with cognitive impairment, providing them with information and strategies to improve their daily lives. Its main purpose is to systematize the contents of a memory stimulation program for seniors with amnestic mild cognitive impairment. The method used was Delphi technique, involving the use of a panel of 29 experts in the field to validate the contents of an intervention program memory. The final program validated by experts consists of 8 weeks, a group session held with elderly per week for 8 weeks and 2 group sessions with family members in the second and sixth weeks. The program also consists of three stages of evaluation, an initial and a final follow-up 3 months after the end of the program. The program consists of a set of activities, organized and structured in sessions, aimed at training the memory. The proposed program has several advantages for clinical practice, such can be applied in different contexts; gathers strategies and interventions of various programs and different authors, can be applied by any health care professional with training in the area. It's a simple and easy to apply, irrespective of the means available. Because little drive can be adapted to the context and participants, which may serve as a standard instrument that guides professionals working in this area.
