Abstract

MUNIZ, Marcela Pimenta; TAVARES, Cláudia Mara de Melo; ABRAHAO, Ana Lúcia  and  SOUZA, Ândrea Cardoso de. Nursing care in times of psychiatric reform. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2015, n.13, pp.61-65. ISSN 1647-2160.

The Psychiatric Reform brings an overhaul of the theoretical-practical and managerial background of the traditional psychiatric care model. This proposal is characterized by the notion of deinstitutionalization by inventing new forms of dealing with mental illness context which requires adjustments in working processes when it comes to mental health, and this context starts to require changes in work processes in mental health. The present study was aimed at proposing a reflection on the Nursing Care in Mental and Psychiatric Health. A theoretical reflection based on the benchmark of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform was the methodology employed. Regarding the results, one should point out critical-reflective indications suggesting a pathway for the nursing team in the context of Psychosocial Care, with a view to overcoming the care limited to wakefulness, restraints and injections, thereby seeking the contextualization of care with the logic of the Psychiatric Reform. It is concluded that there is urgent need to call upon the practices which are still imposed about the practices still imposed in nursing care in Mental Health, as well as the continuously redesigning the care provision addressing thereby the utmost wellbeing of the patient and promotion of their citizenship.
