Resumen

NUNES, Fernanda Daniela Dornelas et al. The phenomenon of suicide among surviving family members: An integrative review. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2016, n.15, pp.17-22. ISSN 1647-2160.  https://doi.org/10.19131/rpesm.0127.

This study aims to seek scientific evidence that contributes to the understanding of the phenomenon of suicide among surviving family members. An integrative literature review was carried out with research in Medical Publications (PubMed electronic database) through the following descriptors: survivors, suicide, death and family. We sought to answer the following guiding question: Which scientific evidence published in the last five years contributes to the understanding of the phenomenon of suicide among surviving family members? Thirteen articles were found, seven of which are present in the inclusion criteria. These point out that the phenomenon of suicide among family members is a reflection or even the reproduction of a suicide previously committed by a very close relative; those mention also that backing and treatment interventions on behalf of these survivors, translated in the form of support groups, are essential to the non reproduction of the episode of suicide by themselves and also as a means of promoting health education in what concerns the prevention of suicide.

Palabras clave : Survivors; Suicide; Death; Family.
