In this article we reflect on the presence of degrowth and the feminist perspective on care in Local Alternative Initiatives developed in mainland Portugal. These two perspectives depart from emancipatory matrices and share concerns with maintaining the sustainability of life on the Planet, in conditions of social justice. We analysed the data collected during the fieldwork phase with 52 local initiatives and, finally, we discussed the pertinence of degrowth and care in reinforcing the emancipatory potential of these local experiences.
