Abstract

SILVA, Vanessa Carvalho da. Low-educated adults who have not returned to formal education: trajectories, contexts and relationship with lifelong learning. SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE [online]. 2023, n.33, pp.11-33.  Epub Mar 06, 2024. ISSN 1647-3337.  https://doi.org/10.30553/sociologiaonline.2023.33.1.

Whit the aim of contributing to the broadening of sociological knowledge about adults with low educational levels who, despite the most recent initiatives in adult education and training and lifelong learning, have remained outside formal education, we present a first overview of the results of the qualitative stage of the research. Focusing on a segment that, at a national level, has remained on the margins of educational societies, we seek to understand whether we are dealing with individuals who have been left out, or have been left out of education and lifelong learning. Guided by the biographical approach, this stage allowed us to capture the reflexivity profiles, social origins, living conditions, and sociability networks of 21 interviewees. The results presented here allowed us to attest to the diversity of this segment, and the impact of these dimensions on the construction of the dispositional heritage regarding the relationship with education and learning.

Keywords : biographical approach; low educated adults; lifelong learning; adult training and education.
