Abstract

SILVA, António Fernando. Pedro Cabrita Reis: The Difference of Repetition. Estúdio [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.7, pp.133-138. ISSN 1647-6158.

In his essay "Why Read the Classics" Italo Calvino begins by stating that classics are books that usually hear "I'm rereading..." and never "I am reading..." (Calvino, 2009). From his point of view, the iterative prefix "Re" points to the idea that there has already been "a before" and so we find ourselves in a state of repetition. Within Pedro Cabrita Reis coherent work, the viewer is confronted with common, recognizable objects, being able to discover "the new" in the recognizable and recognize before knowing.

Keywords : Contemporary; classic; order; knowledge; recognition; creation.
