Abstract

CABRAL, Alexandra. Joana Vasconcelos and Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro: a "skin-deep" relationship. Estúdio [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.7, pp.185-189. ISSN 1647-6158.

Ready-made and fashion have been used in Joana Vasconcelos' work as constant resources. The artist recycles Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro's animal shaped faience figures, by fully covering them in crochet, so as to enhance his peer's social critique. Thus, the ceramist's art pieces acquire not only a second-skin but also new readings, since the textile is, in itself, bearer of meanings.
