Abstract

GORDEEFF, Eliane Muniz. Animated Expressionism in the work of Regina Pessoa. Estúdio [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.7, pp.212-218. ISSN 1647-6158.

This paper examines the plastic expressiveness of Tragic Story with Happy Ending (2005), a work of portuguese animator Regina Pessoa, who tells of a girl who does not fit the community. In an intimate setting but with a dramatic visual narrative in black and white, the representation of that character's emotional tension, refers to the woodcuts of brazilian Oswaldo Goeldi and works of german expressionist cinema, especially the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), by Robert Weine.

Keywords : animation; expression; expressionism; woodcut; expressionist cinema.
