CARRASCO GIMENA, María Teresa. Gamaliel Rodríguez: the manufactured landscape. Estúdio [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.8, pp.213-218. ISSN 1647-6158.
Gamaliel Rodriguez (Puerto Rico, 1980) is an artist concerned primarily by problems of anthropological nature (the rise of consumerism, political struggles, the seizure of the socioeconomic landscape...). Through its work and through the implementation of strategies of appropriation, Gamaliel deals with the study of social reality from a singular aesthetic approach. His landscapes are not usual landscapes, they are places where huge buildings snatch the prominence of nature. In addition, the pen that he use to carry out his drawings gives his works a manufactured aura that, at least, collides with the models that represent, giving a boost to its meaning. Our intention in this article is precisely to deepen the existing connection between the concepts on which this artist works and the way in wich he materializes industrial landscapes, to try to conclude what are the keys on which he holds his discourse.
