Abstract

FEBRER, Mònica. Artifice, the beauty and the beast of contemporary landscape. Estúdio [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.8, pp.344-351. ISSN 1647-6158.

The difficulty in determining who is or is not artifice, and it is or not nature, reflects a high degree of complexity and relativity manifesting thus its greatness. From the tactile sensory (organoleptic) point of view, color and sensory elements that we perceived as artificial yesterday today seem "natural" because before becoming part of the landscape we live with them, join them, getting acquainted. Through the work of Stéphane Couturier, Eduard Fíguls and Sergey Bratkov, will see how the presence of artificiality in the landscape can be sometimes violent, sometimes subtly beautiful, sometimes monstrous thing... which does not prevent the landscape evokes an atmosphere sublime. These artists understand or are close to human beings and their contemporaneity with the pretext of artifice, and make it across the landscape, revealing what we are or what we wanted to be, what we stand or what we wanted to represent...

Keywords : Landscape; urban archeology; artifice; nature; sublime; nostalgic; performance; place; deception; hiding; revealing; forgery.
