Abstract

SOUSA, Ana Matilde Diogo de. Flowers’ Revolution: an introduction to the Year 24 Group in the vanguard of shōjo manga. Estúdio [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.11, pp.135-148. ISSN 1647-6158.

The Year 24 Group is a historic set of authors who revolutionized shōjo manga (Japanese girls’ comics) in the 70s. By delving into four representative works -”Heart of Thomas,” “Poem of the Wind and the Trees,” “Rose of Versailles” and “From Eroica With Love” -, this paper introduces some thematic and visual cues that marked their ethical and aesthetic agenda, one dominated by identity and gender politics.

Keywords : comics; Year 24 Group; Japan; gender; shōjo manga.
