Abstract

SABINO, Isabel. Maria Keil: discret traces for a public space. Estúdio [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.11, pp.182-191. ISSN 1647-6158.

Along nearly a century, the diversified work of Maria Keil (Silves, 1914-2012) reveals significant creative tensions. Her production in tiles (azulejos) to the Lisbon underground stands out for its universal sense of modernity. Some unpublished studies, created by the artist for the recent overhaul of S. Sebastião station, exemplify her discrete modus operandi and research, mainly based on visual and processual logics.

Keywords : Maria Keil; creative process; public space; geometry; tile; azulejo.
