Abstract

CHOUATI, Yassine  and  MUNOZ DEL AMO, Áurea. Leaving to tell: Mona Hatoum, art and sociopolitical criticism. Estúdio [online]. 2017, vol.8, n.19, pp.88-95. ISSN 1647-6158.

This paper seeks to explore Mona Hatoum's artwork, as Arab expatriate artista, and to anlysis her artistic discourse as offside-observer of the sociopolitical situation in the Arab countries; this means, as creator making critical judgement about the situation from the distance. In order to understand her artwork, we will examine the identitarian relationship that she keeps with both, her country of birth, Lebanon, and Europe, where she lives now; and we will study the way in which her message is made, often supported by the use of visual metaphor.

Keywords : Identity; Arab World; south-north; trip; borders; criticism; diaspora.
