In this communication we will develop a brief analysis of some of João Castro Silva sculptures, highlighting the semiotic role of wood used as a starting point for the works, namely the rough woods from the construction sites, the wood brought to the beaches by the storms, or the dense woods of the cryptomeria-japonica, in order to perceive the importance of the choice of those specific materials in the final perception of the work.
