Abstract

CARVALHO, Francione Oliveira  and  SILVA, Karina Pereira da. The Black in the White cube: "of the weights that we carry". Estúdio [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.27, pp.77-85.  Epub Sep 30, 2019. ISSN 1647-6158.

The article reflects on a section of the artistic production of the visual artist Matheus Assunção, born in 1993 in Rio de Janeiro. The artist explore the interfaces between performance art, photography, video and the relation between body/sexuality/gender dissidence and the marks of the slave trade. From this, dialogues and connections are possible with an entire collective of afrodescendant artists who emerged in the last decade in Brazil and who contest the institutionalization of art and renew artistic practices, themes and the ways art works circulate.

Keywords : Matheus Assunção; afrodescendant art; corporeity..
