Abstract

MACHO, Oscar Padilla. Expand and retreat: contingent structures in the work of Pep Montoya. Estúdio [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.27, pp.116-122.  Epub Sep 30, 2019. ISSN 1647-6158.

This article explores the relationships created between the works of the exhibition «No saber perquè però sabent per què» at the Espronceda Art Center in Barcelona by Pep Montoya (Barcelona, 1952) in January 2018. The artist, despite being a particular case because of his career, belongs to a generation of artists in the Catalan context who were concerned with the basic structures of painting. In his case, this concern remains present, despite having opened new ways of exploration. Montoya has been an explorer of the border areas of painting, even those that have to do with representation.

Keywords : Painting; contemporary art; geometry; space.
