Abstract

CANESTRO, Sheila Rodríguez  and  RUIZ, Javier Garcerá. Fascination with "the occult" in contemporary figurative painting: the case of Alain Urrutia. Estúdio [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.28, pp.46-54.  Epub Dec 31, 2019. ISSN 1647-6158.

We are presenting the painter Alain Urrutia's work with the aim to address some reflections around some aspects that define his work, such as the meaning of the occult, the mysterious and the inhospitable. In order to attain that, we will start from an analysis of his series titled "Tierra y cemento (Sentarse y esperar)" which will allow us to offer an approach of his proposal in relation to the current social and cultural context. Thus, we will conclude proposing that the complexity of his images provide a counterweight to the excess of visibility the contemporary subject is exposed to.

Keywords : Contemporary painting; occult; mystery; uncanny; negativity.
