Abstract

CUNHA, Eduardo Vieira da. Bethielle Kupstaitis and blindness: reflexions on a plastic practice. Estúdio [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.34, pp.100-110.  Epub June 30, 2021. ISSN 1647-6158.

This article presents a reflection on the Brazilian artist Bethielle Kupstaitis (Pelotas, RS), who with a series of drawings explores the visibility from her counterpoint: the non-seeing. They are works carried out in three stages of the gaze in transition: eyes closed, half-open and open. The objective is to establish a critique on visuality and time in drawing, in a world in which we live, marked by an excess of light and exposure in hyper connection. The conclusion points to the symbolism of the obscure, the invisible and the shadow, and the relation with the desire, with a dialogue between the works of the artists.

Keywords : blindness; blind drawing; shadow; invisible; silence.
