Abstract

MATOS, Joana Gaudêncio. Scratching the Surface: participation and social transformation of the city. Estúdio [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.35, pp.31-43.  Epub Sep 30, 2021. ISSN 1647-6158.

The text suggests an approach to the work of the plastic artist Alexandre Farto aka Vhils (b.1987). He is considered one of the most significant and thought-provoking artists who develop part of their work in the sphere of street art, mobilizing a set of expressive means that allow a reflection on the urban environment and establish a progressive relationship between art, the city and society. This relationship inevitably leads to a fusion between art and the social context. A set of interventions included in the series of his works entitled “Scratching the Surface” will be analyzed.

Keywords : Street Art; Community; Collaborative Artistic Practices.
