Abstract

DIAZ, Isabel Carralero. Lara Almarcegui: earth projects. Estúdio [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.35, pp.66-74.  Epub Sep 30, 2021. ISSN 1647-6158.

The aim of studying a selection of Lara Almarcegui's (Zaragoza, 1972) projects, whose motif relate to theearthand thesubsoil, is to show how these two elements are used in her artwork as a means to gain knowledge and understanding of a particular place . "Land" becomes a space and tool to position oneself and question the urban order, where elements apparently alien to the dynamics of cities, such as plots, wastelands, tunnels, construction materials or urban gardens, become the focus of her artistic proposals. The land is no longer used exclusively for the production of artistic objects or for the representation of the territory, but either tograspthese places, as it happens inMadrid Subterráneo(2012), to preserve them (Matadero de Arganzuela, 2005-2006)or for the production of experiences and the creation of community ties (Ex-Michelin Wasteland Opens to the Public,Trento, 2006).

Keywords : Lara Almarcegui; urban space; wastelands; terrain vague; mineral rights; earth; subsoil.
