Abstract

PEREIRA, Claudia Matos. Yoko Nishio: the hand as a possible support for death, life and action in times of pandemic. Estúdio [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.35, pp.140-154.  Epub Sep 30, 2021. ISSN 1647-6158.

This article proposes a reflection on a series of drawings by the Brazilian visual artist Yoko Nishio, made daily during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. She published a Quarantine Diary, which has started in March on her Facebook’s timeline and lasted until December of this year. It is intended to analyze her artistic process in this context, verifying how Art can manifest itself, even with the absence of specific materials and spaces usually necessary for artists. Yoko Nishio used his own hand as the support of these ephemeral drawings, in an artistic poetics of overcoming everyday chaos.

Keywords : drawing; art; Covid-19.
