Abstract

BEILER, Ruhan. Regulation and territory’s alienation: feasibility of large companies’ action in Araquari-SC. GOT [online]. 2018, n.15, pp.55-68. ISSN 2182-1267.  https://doi.org/10.17127/got/2018.15.003.

The sparsely-populated municipality of Araquari stayed on the sidelines of regional industrialization process (in the northeast of Santa Catarina) and started to receive a considerable amount of industrial plants from large economic groups (domestic and foreign) in the present century. In this paper we investigate the power of territory regulation, now based on strong ideological neoliberal content, that lead the territory’s alienation of Araquari. Therefore, either the materialization of Companies actions such as BMW, Hyosung and Ciser in the municipality and the role of the State for the consolidation and maintenance of those enterprises are object of our analysis, guided by the normative density. Finally, we discuss some of the territorial implications (entrenched and latent) of the intensification of the corporate use of the territory since the 2000 decade, pointing to the process of alienation of the territory in Araquari.
