Abstract

This study adopts Lisbon (Portugal) to understand the main effects (positive and/or negative) of tourism to the city, from the perspective of hospitality theory. The methodology contemplated the analysis of news in the newspaper ‘Expresso’ by its web portal, within a period of one year (04/2017 to 04/2018) to answer the following research question: "What were the news related to 'tourism in the city of Lisbon 'in the newspaper Expresso from 20/April/ 2017 to 20/April/2018?” The contents obtained were analyzed according to Bardin (2011) and pairing to the theory according to Laville and Dionne (1999). In the end, it was noted that the newspaper Expresso dealt with topics related to Portuguese tourism growth, but also to problems such as people evictions, rising of rental prices, tourist massification, property degradation and others.
