Abstract

GORGULHO, Ana Rita; SANTOS, Leonor; COSTA, Nilza  and  SOUSA, Antónia Luísa. In-service portuguese language teacher education in São Tomé e Príncipe archipelago: a workshop suggestion on teaching and writing assessment. Invest. Práticas [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.1, pp.99-117. ISSN 2182-1372.  https://doi.org/10.25757/invep.v10i1.200.

Sao Tome and Principe (STP) has many teachers with no professional qualifications for teaching, which is due, in some way, to the attempt to achieve the universalization target of compulsory education, as defined by UNESCO. Recognizing that continuing education (CE) offers to teachers the opportunity to professional development, especially in contexts where education and training are considered structural axes to enable the country's progress, a study is underway about CE, focusing on teaching and assessment of writing in Portuguese Language (PL), in a perspective of cooperation for the development in teacher education. In this context, following a qualitative approach that favoured documentary analyses (contextual studies) and content analysis (answers to a questionnaire), and based on literature review about CE and teaching and assessment of writing production, a training workshop (TW) was developed for PL teachers of 2nd cycle of basic education, in Sao Tome. The main purpose of this paper is to describe, sustainably, the TW, conceived based on the assumption that professional development stems from the articulation between training and educational context.

Keywords : Portuguese Language; Cooperation with Sao Tome and Principe; In-service teacher education; Teaching; learning and assessment of writing.
