Abstract

FONSECA, Gorete. ICT in initial teacher training: representations of practices for training of educators. Invest. Práticas [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.2, pp.4-25. ISSN 2182-1372.  https://doi.org/10.25757/invep.v10i2.199.

This article is based on the representations of teacher educators it aims to present and discuss the training practices developed using the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), and the promotion of their use, during the training process of future teachers. It is a descriptive and interpretative study centred on teacher educators of two public institutions of Higher Education that educate teachers in Portugal. To achieve this, twenty semi-directional interviews were conducted. The results show that the teacher educators are willing to use ICTs and making future teachers aware of their pedagogical use, but there is not always a complete convergence of opinions and / or practices showed in indicators considered to be potentially innovative and in focus to what is expected for initial training. These evidences summarize the difficulty to provide opportunities for future teachers to observe and experiment with examples of pedagogical use of ICT, due in part to the beliefs and attitudes that teacher educators themselves have about teaching and the potential of technologies, but also the lack of knowledge / training that the educators themselves have in this area, these act like barriers to the further promotion of ICT use.
