The article aims to map the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language in public and private universities in the founding countries of the Mercado Comum do Sul - Mercosur (Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay). To accomplish this, we examined all the web pages of Mercosur universities, carry out an update of bibliographies and documents (laws and university statutes), identified undergraduate degrees offered in the Portuguese Language and analyzed the curriculum of those degrees offered in order to know how many semesters are devoted to this language. Out of a total of 161 universities, only 43 teach the Portuguese language either in a specific undergraduate degree or as a subject. We therefore conclude that the country which has been the most involved in disseminating Portuguese teaching is Argentina, albeit timidly, and that degrees offered in Portuguese are mainly in the areas of economics, tourism and journalism.
