Abstract

CRUZ, Patrícia  and  SALVADORI, Maria Angela Borges. Education in museums: among concepts and practices. Invest. Práticas [online]. 2022, vol.12, n.1, pp.159-187.  Epub Mar 29, 2022. ISSN 2182-1372.  https://doi.org/10.25757/invep.v12i1.301.

The purpose of this article is to reflect on educative actions conducted in museums and, at the same time, reflect on concepts and methodologies that run through the fields of education, history, and heritage. In a second moment, in a more specific approach, we have observed the work done at the Museum of Anthropology in Vale do Paraíba - MAV - considering the reports written by the institution´s Educative Sector, between 1995 and 1996, a period in which one sees a great concern about performing educative practices. This two-fold perspective allows to think that both the MAV´s specific activities and, in broader basis, discuss the topic of education in museums and its more or less vigorous connections with school protocols, its curricula, and practices. The objectives are mainly related to advocating for the heritage and conservating records of the past, to ensure access to it and its democratization. And, of course, advocating for an education in museums capable of fostering these ideals.

Keywords : Museum; Education in museums; Heritage education.
