This article, from a Master's thesis Education in development at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, investigates the possible social representations of violence from social educators working in a socio-educational project at the "Complexo do Salgueiro", a favela from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This reseach, started in 2021, investigate the social representations of violence shared by the educators of this non-school space, dedicating to understanding how these representations influence the socio-educational actions offered by this institution. At the same time, it analyzes how these practices may (or may not) have served in a real way to work an Education for Peace committed to combating the violence found in this context. For this investigation, the methodology will use semi-structured interviews and the writing of “field diaries” as a research instrument - based on field observation inspired by Husserl's phenomenology. As a result of the work, it should be noted that this investigation is still under development, containing reflections and initial hypotheses about these objectives and some theoretical advances directed, especially for the importance of studies on violence today (including these in the approach of the Theory of Social Representations) and the possibilities of non-school education and Education for Peace in violent spaces. In the future, we will expand (and publicize) the empirical and analytical results in the form of new presentations and publications, contributing to studies on marginalization and violence, as well as to the fields of social representations and Social Pedagogy.
