Resumen

ALMEIDA DE FARIA, Guélmer Júnior; ALVES FERREIRA, Maria da Luz  y  NARCISO ROCHA DE PAULA, Andrea Maria. “We, the girls in my family, always get there early on”: Migrational pathways, social networks and life spaces of migrant domestics. CIDADES [online]. 2020, n.40, pp.15-32. ISSN 2182-3030.  https://doi.org/10.15847/cct.jun2020.040.doss-art02.

This paper analyzes the migratory trajectories of domestic workers from the north of Minas Gerais, considering the focus on social networks and living spaces. Anchored in conducting semi-structured interviews with six migrant women, interpolated with secondary data from the IBGE 2010 Census. It focuses on the causes that cause migration and how social networks contribute to gender relations in migrations. It is concluded that the networks promote the insertion in the labor market, the adaptation in society and the maintenance of family and cultural ties with the destination region, and a ghettoization of female jobs.

Palabras clave : space trajectories; rural-urban migrations; women; migratory networks; housework; Minas Gerais; Brazil.
